Richard Solvey

Richard "Rick" J. Solvey COTTAGEVILLE, SC - Richard "Rick" Julius Solvey, 54, of Cottageville, SC, husband of Rhonda Dudley Solvey, passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2012. Rick was born November 19, 1958 in Canton, OH, the son of the late Michael Solvey Jr., and Ruth Anne Thompson. Richard was a retired Navy Veteran, a Mason, and a Shriner. He was a Jack of all trades and enjoyed restoring boats and automobiles, and he was a motorcycle enthusiast. He worked as a logging truck driver for SM Bodiford & Sons in Summerville. As a truck driver he often would stop to help people in distress on the side of the road. He never met a stranger and would talk to anyone. He was also known by his family as the "baby whisperer". Richard is survived by his loving wife and soulmate, Rhonda, three children: Jerri (Damon) Stewart of Glen Burnie, MD, Jamie (Burch) Stokes II of Billerica, MA, Justin Solvey of Ravenna, OH; stepson: Jesse McCullough of Cottageville; three grandsons: Jonas and Silas Stewart, and Burch Stokes III; three sisters and one brother: Helen Troy of Scio, OH, Catherine "Katie" Solvey of Bucyrus, OH, Roger (Nancy) Solvey of Cadiz, OH, Martha (Dan) Edwards of Canton, OH; two nephews and one niece. Rick was predeceased by his parents and step father Howard A. Thompson; his sister, Cheryl "Cheri" Solvey; and brother, Howard "Butchie" A. Thompson, II. The relatives and friends of Richard and Rhonda Solvey are invited to attend the Funeral Service for the former on Sunday, November 25, 2012 at 4:00 PM from the chapel of James A. McAlister Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 PM on Sunday, just prior to the service. Final Interment will be private.
