Nately Ronsheim

Nately Ronsheim, who spent her life sharing her time and talents, died Friday, September 21 at Gables Care Center in Hopedale, Ohio. She was 88. Born December 12, 1923 in Island Falls, Maine, her parents were the late Edythe (Curry) Ramsay and the Reverend Thomas M. Ramsay. She graduated from Cadiz High School in 1941. On October 4, 1942 she married Milton McConnell Ronsheim, who died on August 15, 2009. Giving willingly to her family and community was second nature to Nately. She was a charter member of the Cadiz Distaff Club and the driving force behind the early Clark Gable birthday celebrations. In the 1970s and early 80s, Cadiz elementary school children benefited from her original puppet shows, written to help children learn to read. In 1986 she founded the Harrison Hills Cottage Industries, and her enthusiasm and devotion kept it alive and thriving for many years. She also served on the Harrison County CIC. In 2004 she was awarded the Citizens' Choice award at the Cadiz Business Association's annual dinner. Nately was an avid tennis player. She won the Columbus (OH) women's title in the early 1940s and continued playing as long as she was able. Over the years she passed down her talent and passion for the game to her son, grandsons and great-grandson. Theater was another hobby. She acted in and directed local productions as well as directing the Wheeling Symphony's productions of Hansel and Gretel and Madame Butterfly in the mid-50s. Outside the realm of Harrison County, she and Milton served as volunteers for the Presbyterian Church in India, Nepal, Indonesia, Switzerland and Wasatch, Utah. From 1972 to 1992, Nately served as the director for the Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle (CLSC) in Chautauqua, NY. Founded in 1878, CLSC is the oldest continuous book club in the United States. She is survived by her children, Pam (Greg) Gibson of Cadiz and Douglas (Maureen Emerling) of Pittsburgh, PA; three grandsons, Aric (Ariel Shea) Gibson and Aaron (Eileen) Ronsheim of Washington, DC and Wade (Kelley) Gibson of Westminster, CO; and one great-grandson, Samuel Gregory Gibson of Westminster, CO. Also surviving are her sisters, Roberta Bagwell of Sacramento, CA and Edie (Richard) Little of San Gabriel, CA and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth Lingo. A memorial service will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, October 27 at the Presbyterian Church of Cadiz, the church of which Nately was a member for over 65 years.
