Maxine Bankes

Maxine Elizabeth Davis Bankes, of Corsicana, TX, formerly of Eastern Ohio, died Friday surrounded by her husband, the "love of her life" for nearly 63 years, and family. Maxine was born May 18, 1923 in Bellaire, Ohio to Emery and Ezma Davis. She was the second oldest of six children and survived them all. A Registered Nurse by profession, Maxine began her career in 1945 at Ohio Valley General Hospital in Wheeling, WV and retired in 1985 after serving patients in Wheeling, Dennison, TX, Baylor Hospital in Dallas and Weirton Medical Center, Weirton. Maxine married Russell H. Bankes, Jr. on her birthday in 1951. They were married for over 62 years. Russell, a lifelong minister, and Maxine served churches in Pottsboro, TX, Shawnee, OK, Dennison, TX, Oklahoma City, Richardson, TX, Irving, TX, Weirton, WV and Corsicana, TX. During that time, Maxine helped establish the first free health clinic for the poor in Oklahoma City in the early 60's. She pioneered the "Bibles to Babies" concept to introduce infants to God's love and established those classes in every church she served. She believed " a job worth doing is a job worth doing well" and held herself to those standards throughout her 90 years. She loved her family and friends with all her heart. She is survived by her husband, Russell of Corsicana; a son Mark Bankes of Dickson, TN and his daughters, Marlee and her husband Lucas Spangler and Ashley Bankes of Cincinnati, Lauren Keele and Alleigh Bankes of Dickson, TN; a daughter, April and her husband, Ove Johansson of Amarillo, TX, and their children, Annika and her husband, Brett Spalding of Canyon, TX and Stefan Johansson and his fianc, Monica Mosier of Cheyenne, WY; and two great grandchildren, Maddox and Corbin Spangler. Following funeral services in Corsicana, TX, a private committal will be held at Cadiz Union Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
